Therapist profile
I am an integrative counsellor with a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling; what 'integrative' means can vary greatly from counsellor to counsellor but, essentially, an integrative approach involves drawing upon several different therapeutic theories in my work with individuals. The core of my therapeutic practice uses ideas from existential psychotherapy, person-centred counselling and cognitive-behavioural therapy.
As a counsellor I am client-led, meaning that I tailor therapy to my clients' needs and ensure that decisions about therapy are made jointly; counselling is your space and should therefore meet your unique, individual needs. From my perspective, a counselling session provides a safe place where thoughts, feelings, experiences, behaviours, worries and concerns can be voiced freely, explored and untangled alongside another human being.
In addition to being qualified as a counsellor I have also competed an MSc in psychology; whilst I am not a qualified counselling or clinical psychologist, my education in psychology helps me to make informed decisions about what approaches I integrate into my therapeutic practice and to consider why these might be useful for people.
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their Ethical Framework. I am also a student member of the British Psychological Society (BPS)
