What is Meditation?

The word meditation, is derived from two Latin words, meditari (to think or to exercise the mind) and mederi (to heal). Its Sanskrit derivation 'medha' means wisdom. Meditation is a precise technique for resting the mind and attaining a state of consciousness that is totally different from the normal waking state. It is the means for fathoming all the levels of ourselves and experiencing the centre of consciousness within. By engaging with a particular meditation practice one can learn the patterns and habits of one’s own mind. This practice offers a means to cultivate new, more positive ways of being. With regular practise and patience these nourishing, focused states of mind can deepen into profoundly peaceful and energised states of mind. Our meditation classes are held every Thursday evening at 7pm and are £8 per class.

Meditation can be used anywhere, at any time; it offers a completely drug-free and natural way to improve our mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health. Meditation helps develop a mind that is balanced, calm, and quiet and able to function more efficiently and reasonably. In addition, a person who meditates is offered a unique glimpse at the workings of their own mind.
