For more than 60 years we have worked with the disease model in mental health, and then looking at drugs to ‘correct’ the illness. Now we have scientists including Professor Martin Seligman, Daniel Gilbert, Nancy Etcoff looking at Positive Psychology. This course explores the science of what makes life worth living and how to strengthen our emotional resilience. What is ‘happiness’? The difference between synthesised happiness and natural happiness.

During the day we will be looking at:

What is happiness? Pre frontal cortex studies. Are happy people problem free? What is emotion? The Lang-Bernard theory.

Neuroplasticity in fear, happiness and habits. What happens here and can we develop on it?

Scaling and the science behind it. Why the investment in the process of goal achievement rather than just the goal of creating happiness. What small step?

Sparkling moments or 5 things that are going well and the 5:1 ratio and focusing illusions. Psychologists Donald Clifton and Tom Rath’s science behind our concept.

Studies including, Dan Gilbert and why we make bad decisions, negative bias. Massachusetts General Hospital study (Benson and Liebermann) on relaxation and enhanced wellness

Why is ‘happiness’ important? By 2020 the World Health Organisation predicts that depression will be the second biggest mental health issue.

This course is being facilitated by our Clinical Hypnotherapist, Caroline Huish. To purchase your tickets please click on the following link.
